Implant Dentistry

A dental implant is an ideal tooth restoration for people who are missing one or more teeth as a result of injury, periodontal disease, or any other reason. A dental implant is a metal post that a dentist positions into the jaw. Once in place and bone surrounding the implant has had time to heal, a replacement tooth is attached to the post. Implants are stronger than natural teeth and generally last 20-30 years. They are also a more favorable approach than bridgework since they do not depend on neighboring teeth for support. To receive implants, you need to have healthy gums and adequate bone to support the implant. "Implant dentistry is the single most valuable technology that impacts the lives of dental patients with missing teeth today and must be considered as a first choice treatment in modern Dentistry," according to Dr. Thomas Carroll's daily philosophy.   Make An Appointment Now!

Is Implant Dentistry a New Technology? "The technology is 50 years old and many great strides have been made by a handful of pioneers to bring successful treatments to their personal patients" says Dr. Carroll as he explains this miracle technology to yet another possible candidate for implants. It is a very exciting time to recognize and be a part of this "renaissance in dentistry". Dr Carroll has been placing Dental Implants since graduating from dental school for 23 years and is still just as enthusiastic about what implant dentistry has to offer in terms of permanent solutions to endless numbers of problems that he sees in everyday dentistry. No area of dental science has so dramatically advanced. The partial denture or full denture wearer knows all to well the dissatisfaction and limitations of these traditional dental appliances. "We don't see the "peg leg" anymore for an amputee and in the near future we won't see the denture or removable partial bridge any longer. They just don't work well! And when a patient loses a back molar it is just an inferior choice to consider cutting the adjacent two teeth on either side for crowns or caps to close the space without even considering the superior option of replacing the missing tooth with a dental implant. "It's a choice that turns treatment success rates from a seven to ten year average into a twenty to thirty year average easily. There are fifty year old implant patients running around out there that are still trouble free" says Dr. Carroll. "This technology isn't new!"

Are Dental Implants Right for Me? "With the loss of the very first back molar we begin to see the " Bite fall down or collapse" and this effects the health of the adjacent back teeth". "Yes implants save other natural teeth" says Dr. Carroll and this concept is very poorly understood in the general Dental Community. Consequently the patient population never fully appreciates the realization of what implants can do in preventing further tooth loss, bone loss and general "sunken face" appearance from these deteriorations caused by one tooth being lost… then another and another… Ultimately dental implants offer a predictable treatment course, and they look ,feel and function like natural teeth and have similar maintenance requirements.

Is Dr. Carroll the right Dentist to Place my Dental Implants? My philosophy is to make implant dentistry more affordable to the masses. Implant dentistry is a great value when considered for its longevity. Dr Carroll always describes it as "part bionic, it never decays or needs a root canal "and therefore can last multiple decades for a patient or they may go an entire lifetime. We educate every associate doctor that is a part of Today's Dentistry so that patients receive all treatment options so that we (the patient/dentist team) can make the right choice for the patient. Our doctors all keep abreast of the latest clinical training in this field to provide continuing care from the surgical phase to placing the teeth so that the patient receives a one on one relation with his dental care provider. Many concepts of "teeth in a day" promotion have resurfaced from old technologies that can be touted as advancement but don't have longevity studies. Or patients have come in many times with the claim that they have been told that they aren't a good implant candidate because they don't have enough bone. Implants come in various shapes and dimensions to fit even the most "deficient in bone" patients. We have successfully treated the "lower denture cripple" with thirty five year old implant technology that is a tremendous health and psychological benefit to the patient backed by years of documented clinical success. Dr. Carroll has chosen to focus his practice around implant dentistry because it is truly one of the greatest needs in delivery of all of dental care and after 23 years of training and clinical success in the field of Implant Dentistry can offer his patients many options for missing teeth.

Dr. Carroll is a Fellow with the American Academy of Implant Dentistry.
